Courses : Alpha Course
The Alpha Course has been running for over 30 years, beginning at Holy Trinity Brompton in central London. It was created initially as a means of presenting the basic principles of the Christian faith to new Christians in a relaxed and informal setting. By 1990, when former barrister Nicky Gumbel took over the course, Alpha was a central feature of the church’s life. It was while leading his second Alpha course that Nicky realised how this simple course could appeal to non-churchgoers and he adapted the course to give it the kind of feel that would suit interested enquirers. Over 4 million people in the UK and 29 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course!
Aldridge Parish Church runs Alpha courses for those who want to find out more about Christian faith or for those who wish to refresh their understanding of Christian faith. Courses are provided free of charge and everyone is most welcome, even just to try the first session and see if it’s for you! The sessions begin with drinks and light refreshments, followed by a brief interview where someone will explain a little bit about the difference faith makes to their life. There will then be a DVD presentation following the title for each week, followed by a time for conversation and ‘any questions?’ There is humour, no pressure to do more than just listen but also the freedom to ask anything you wish, about what you've seen and heard.
Aldridge Parish Church is delighted to offer Alpha - whether you want to explore what the Christian faith has to say in answer to the questions of life or perhaps deepen or refresh your Christian commitment - Alpha is for you! The atmosphere is relaxed and unpressured, there's plenty of food for thought and many have found Alpha to be fun, helpful and a genuinely positive experience.
Our new Alpha course will be hosted by David Lee and Hayley Bourne, both members of Aldridge Parish Church. The starting date is Wednesday 29th January 2024 and it will run for 11 weeks. We meet at 7.30pm in the Church Centre near the Cooper and Jordan School behind Aldridge Parish Church. Each session includes interviews of those who have been on Alpha before, an interesting video followed by conversation and an opportunity for questions. If your life is a bit busy, it is still possible to do the course even if you cannot make every session.
